Cervical rib :
Cervical rib is called as an extra rib that is present in the neck region at birth. A cervical rib is not a normal rib in the chest, but it will be diagonal or vertical. Usually, this cervical rib will pass through the thoracic outlet, causing thoracic outlet syndrome. There are four types of cervical ribs. Most of the cervical ribs do not show any symptoms. The symptoms that are observed in the case of cervical rib will be a lump in the neck, neck pain, pain in the arm, numbness in the arm, weakness in the hand or forearm muscles, bending of fingers, and a tingling sensation in the hand. The diagnosis of cervical rib will be made through physical examination, chest X-ray, neck X-ray, MRI scan, nerve conduction studies, CT scan, electromyography (EMG), and evoked potential tests. Cervical rib will be treated with medicines, physiotherapy, and surgical removal of the cervical rib.
