Carotid Stenosis :
A carotid angiogram is a diagnostic test that helps in identifying carotid artery disease. A carotid angiogram is also recommended to diagnose heart conditions like transient ischemic attack (TIA) and stroke. Carotid angiogram involves inserting a thin, flexible tube into a blood vessel in the arm or groin area, followed by injecting a contrast dye, which makes it easier to visualize the arteries, and then taking X- ray images. The patient should consult their doctor immediately, after a carotid angiogram is performed, if they experience signs like itchy skin, chest pain and discomfort, nausea, symptoms of anaphylaxis such as tightness in the throat, and trouble with vision. A carotid angiogram is indicated to determine a treatment plan for the disease and to assess narrowing or blockages of the carotid arteries (which transport blood from the heart to the head and brain), which can significantly increase the risk of stroke.
