Carotid Angioplasty :

Carotid angioplasty is a procedure done in patients having ischemic stroke in which the carotid arteries are cleared thus restoring the blood flow to the brain by inflating a balloon or using a stent to widen the artery. Carotid arteries are one of the major sources of blood supply to the brain.Due to various reasons they might get blocked due to fatty deposits called plaque which reduces the blood flow to the brain causing carotid artery disease. Stroke or cerebro vascular accident(CVA) occurs when there is an abrupt stoppage of blood supply to the brain causing various symptoms like weakening of one side of the body , slurring of speech ,incoherence ,drooling of saliva due weakening of facial muscles ,severe headaches etc,.it is a medical emergency. Procedures like angiography is done to diagnose and managed accordingly .
