Cardiomyopathy :
In this disease the walls of the heart become thick or stretched which makes the heart difficult to pump the blood effectively It can be found both in young children and also in adults. Cardiomyopathy left untreated might lead to cardiac failure which might be life threatening. Basically there are three types of cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy, and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy.
Diagnosis of cardiomyopathy is made by echocardiogram, ECG and an MRI. Treatment generally includes decongestive therapy, anticoagulants, antihypertensive medications and diuretics as cardiomyopathy leads to heart failure. Life style modification might also be suggested.
