Blepharitis :
In this condition, the eyelid gets inflamed and swollen and feels like a burning or sore. This condition is caused by infection, is not contagious, and rarely results in blindness. A common type of bacteria that causes the infection is staphylococcus. Symptoms worsen during daytime and, if untreated, may lead to blindness. Blepharitis is diagnosed by an ophthalmologist thru a device known as a slit lamp. Types: a)Anterior blepharitis is mostly associated with dandruff on eyelids, which results in inflammation and infection. b) Posterior blepharitis in these conditions, the oil-producing meibomian gland is thickened with oil; therefore, greasy eyelids are present. Bacteria cause this condition due to a blockage of a gland called the meibomian gland, which is situated at the base of each eyelash. Treatment includes maintaining hygiene and using eye massages, antibiotics, and steroids to provide relief. Reoccurrence or untreated blepharitis can result in chalazion, pink eye, corneal ulcer, and eyelid issues. To prevent it from causing a problem, keep hands, face, and scalp clean, wash hair regularly, and maintain a clean face before going to bed.
