Black Eye :
It is the bruising around the eye and results from trauma to the face or the head. Once injury is inflicted, those minuscule blood vessels near the eye break open and start bleeding under the skin, causing swelling and discoloration, that sometimes turns the skin blackish blue in color. Common causes are accidents and falls, sports injuries, and direct blows into the eye and the nose.
A black eye often presents with very significant pain, swelling, bruising, sometimes with difficulty in opening the eye. In some cases, there can be blurred vision, headaches, or dizziness. Although looking very severe, a black eye heals itself within a week or two.
Treatment depends upon the severity of the black eye. Black eye may be treated by applying ice compresses to help reduce swelling and ease pain. Some over the counter pain medications also relieve discomfort from this injury. Serious injuries that could indicate vision problems or fractures need immediate assessment and diagnosis to diagnose possible underlying conditions.
