Atrial Flutter :
Atrial flutter is another form of arrhythmia of the heart. In patients with atrial flutter, an irregular heart rhythm is observed. Most of the patients remain asymptomatic. Some symptoms that a patient might experience during an atrial flutter include chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, and syncope. Atrial flutter is generally caused by a defect in the conduction system of the heart, which controls and regulates the heartbeat. Risk factors for developing an atrial flutter include uncontrolled hypertension, unhealthy lifestyle like smoking, or underlying diseases like congenital heart diseases, airway diseases, hypothyroidism, and pulmonary thromboembolism. Some of the investigations a cardiologist might advise against ruling out an atrial flutter include ECG, 2d echo and Holter monitoring. Treatment of atrial flutter includes the administration of calcium channel blockers and antiarrhythmic drugs and certain procedures like ablation, cardioversion, or pacemaker implantation (if required). A lifestyle modification would be suggested by a cardiologist for the patients suffering with atrial flutter.
