Appendicitis in Children :
Appendicitis in children is an inflammation of the appendix, which is located at the right lower side of the abdomen. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, pain with movement and fever, chills, changes in behavior, loose stool, and swollen belly. It is caused by abdominal infection, digestive tract infection, inflammatory bowel disease, and growth inside the appendix. Risk factors are 10 years of age, family history of appendicitis, and cystic fibrosis. Complications of appendicitis are peritonitis and sepsis. X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, blood tests, and urine test make diagnosis. It can be treated in two ways of procedure that include laparoscopic surgery and laparotomy. Risks include infections, abscesses, and small bowel obstructions.
