Acid Peptic Disease :
This disease of acid reflux may be defined as the retro-flow of stomach acids into the esophagus, bringing along irritable and uneasy feelings. There actually are two opposing factors due to which one can get this disease, overproduction of acid or weakening of sphincter of esophagus. The symptoms of acid reflux disease include heartburn, chest pains, difficulty in swallowing, and a sour taste in the mouth. The symptoms are combined with endoscopy which is the visual examination of the esophagus and stomach and pH monitoring in order to measure the acid levels in the esophagus. Nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic therapy would include lifestyle modifications such as avoidance of provoking agents like spicy food, alcohol, and caffeine; keeping the elevation of head at night during sleep and improving ways to lower stress levels. Medication often includes antacids.
