Abortion :
Abortion is a treatment to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion is performed in two ways either through medication or through a small operation. During early pregnancy, between 7 and 9 weeks, doctors typically prescribe abortion pills that will prevent pregnancy and flush out the pregnancy from the uterus. Once this time is over, if pills fail or if the pregnancy is advanced a minor surgery known as suction or dilation and curettage can be performed. Abortion is typically opted for when a woman does not want to carry the pregnancy forward or if the baby has severe medical issues. It can also be performed if the pregnancy poses a danger to the health of the woman. In India, abortion is permitted up to 24 weeks under specific circumstances and must always be performed by a trained doctor in a registered clinic or hospital. Some bleeding and cramps are expected after the procedure. Doctors can prescribe medicines and rest and recovery advice. Follow-up for a checkup is necessary. The post-abortion patient needs to be on bed rest for 2-3 days and should avoid lifting heavy weights for a period of time.
