Trichologist :
A trichologist is a hair doctor who deals with conditions associated with hair and scalp. To certify as a trichologist, one has to finish their graduation in MBBS, followed by specialization in DVL, and then pursue Fellowship in Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Dermatology. The common problems treated by a trichologist include alopecia, bacterial infection, scalp psoriasis, fungal infection, oily scalp, dermatitis, hypertrichosis, hair breakage, hirsutism, etc. The presenting complains for which a patient should consult a trichologist include severe hair loss, itching over the scalp, hair thinning, hair breakage, dandruff on scalp, loss of hair on eyebrows, changes observed in texture of hair, excess hair growth on face in females, thyroid disorders oily scalp, bald patches, PCOD linked hair loss, and hair fall associated with cancer treatments. Low level laser therapy (LLLT), PRP therapy, and hair transplantation procedures are common treatments provided by a trichologist.
