Scleroderma :
Scleroderma is a rare chronic autoimmune condition causing over production of collagen (protein) that leads to hardening and tightening of skin can affects internal organs such as lungs, joints, GI tract , heart, kidney. Symptoms include Mask like face ,numbness and swelling of hand and feets, cough ,stiffness and loss of mobility of joints ,heart burn, difficulty swallowing.
One of the Main symptoms is the Raynaud's phenomenon, which results in reduced blood flow to the fingers and toes in reaction to cold weather or psychological stress. The limbs become numb or painful and can turn white, blue, gray, or red.
Risk factors are genetics, age 30 to 50 years, more common in black people. Diagnosed by blood test antinuclear autoantibodies, biopsy to affected skin , ILD screeing,PFT, HRCT . Treatment No cure for disease , but different medication can help treat symptoms likes immunosuppressants, Antifibrotic therapy, vascular therapy, light therapy , stem cell transplants, Physical therapy will help improve moves and surgical procedures for any complications that have developed.
