SLE :
SLE is an autoimmune disease where the immune system damages its own organs instead of protecting them. Any organ in the body can be affected depending upon the damage of that particular tissue which may include skin. kidneys. brain. heart and lungs. The main reason for developing this disease is unknown. genetics. hormones and pollution are considered to be some of the factors for developing this disease. Symptoms include fever. rashes over body. generalized weakness. fever and unexplained weight loss. Classic symptom of the SLE includes a butterfly rash on the cheeks of the patient when they are exposed to sunlight. Diagnosis is generally done by basic blood investigations. urine analysis and also biopsy if needed. Treatment includes life style modification like getting less exposed to sunlight. staying hydrated. usage of medicines like hydroxychloroquine. corticosteroids. blood thinners. and immunosuppressive medications. A general physician or a hematologist should be consulted if a patient experiences any symptoms of SLE.
