Ovarian cyst :
An ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sac that can arise on the surface of an ovary or within the ovary. Most of the ovarian cysts are benign and self limiting which means they appear symptomatically in most cases. They occur mainly during the menstrual cycle and they're often called functional cysts because they result from ovulation. Other less common types include dermoid cysts and endometriomas. Symptoms include pelvic pain, bloating, or discomfort in coitus. Some even cause pressure on the bladder or bowels and may lead to troubles of urination or passing stool because of bigger cysts. In this regard, it may rupture with a cyst, or the ovary may twist, and necessitates urgent medical care. Treatment would depend on the size and type of the cyst. Usually, in small asymptomatic cysts it would follow up with regular ultrasounds. More symptomatic cysts or bigger increases in sizes are more likely to have hormonal birth control used for them to avoid the formation of more cysts or even surgical removal of cysts. However, the vast majority of ovarian cysts are benign.
