Facial Pain :
Facial pain is also called oro-facial pain, which is described as a symptom of many disease conditions. There are several types of facial pain, such as jaw pain, tooth pain, vascular pain, nerve pain, and atypical facial pain. There are several causes for facial pain, such as herpes simplex or herpes zoster infection, headaches, sinus infections, myofascial pain syndrome, tooth abscesses, sialadenitis, trigeminal neuralgia, and TMJ disorders. Facial pain can be treated based on the underlying causes through nonsurgical and surgical procedures. The nonsurgical procedures done to treat the facial pain are complementary therapy, botox injections, medications such as antidepressants, anti seizure medications, and nerve blocks to relieve facial pain. The surgical procedures done to treat facial pain are microvascular decompression, peripheral nerve stimulation, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Mild facial pain can be relieved with ice pack application, massage, using a heat pack, and pain relievers.
