An ophthalmologist is the medical doctor who can diagnose, treat, and care for the whole spectrum of disorders relating to the eye, which may be a minor or complex. They prescribe corrective lenses and medications, even perform surgeries to correct the diseases in the eyes. Some of the diseases they treat are cataract diseases, glaucoma diseases, macular diseases, degeneration, diabetic diseases leading to retinopathy diseases, and vision lost through injury or infections. They also perform routine eye tests, screen the patient for diseases of the eyes, and provide preventive care to the eyes. Becoming an ophthalmologist starts with getting an MBBS degree and after becoming a postgraduate the doctor specializes in the field of ophthalmology and would gain either MS (Master of Surgery) or MD in ophthalmology. Regular visits to an ophthalmologist will enable patients to detect eye diseases early, and they can receive treatment so that the quality of vision remains good along with healthy eyes. Staying hydrated and reduction of screen time would be suggested by an ophthalmologist.
