Rheumatic fever :
An auto-immune condition that leads to inflammation or swelling of tissues like the heart and joints of the patient is rheumatic fever. It is an abnormal immune response to the untreated streptococcus or scarlet fever infection. It is majorly seen in the children in the age group of 5 to 15. The person affected with the condition experiences symptoms like fever, headache, stomach pain, joint pain or swelling, jerky movements, chest pain, fatigue, small painless bumps on the skin, and painless rashes on the skin. It can be caused due to genetic factors, specific bacterial infections, and environmental factors. It can be diagnosed through blood tests, ECG, and Echocardiogram by a doctor. The treatment plan includes medical management through antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and anti-seizure drugs. Early intervention and diagnosis by a Physician or Cardiologist helps in better management and prevention of fatal complications like heart failure, irregular heartbeats, or valve diseases.
