Lipoma :
A lipoma is a benign soft tissue tumor, a round or oval-shaped lump of fatty tissue, that is observed to grow beneath the skin. Lipomas are smaller than 2 inches in diameter, moveable and painless, encapsulated and do not spread to other tissues surrounding them. Lipomas usually develop in various areas such as under the skin on the back, neck, arms or legs, shoulders, trunk (chest and torso) and forehead. The causative factors of a lipoma include medical conditions like dermatofibrosarcoma, Gardner's syndrome, hereditary multiple lipomatosis and Mardelung's disease. These lipomas are categorized into various types such as conventional, fibrolipoma, angiolipoma, myelolipoma, spindle cell, hibernoma and pleomorphic lipomas. Lipomas usually do not require any treatment and go away on their own. The treatment methods to manage lipomas involve surgical removal and liposuction for the removal of lipoma.
