Vaginismus :
Vaginismus is a disorder in which the muscles around a woman's vagina contract spontaneously whenever something attempts to go inside, such as during intercourse, a routine medical examination, or while inserting a tampon. This contraction is not under the control of the woman and can result in pain, burning, or discomfort. It is not caused by any physical damage or infection but is usually associated with fear, anxiety, or previous negative experiences concerning intimacy. At times, it may also occur because of strict cultural beliefs or ignorance about sex. Vaginismus may make it difficult or even impossible for a woman to have intercourse or receive a pelvic exam. Treatment is often both physical and emotional. Gynecologists can advise pelvic floor exercises, vaginal trainers, or physical therapy to relax the muscles. Counseling plays an important role and can even reduce fear or anxiety. With proper assistance and patience, most women recover completely and have a healthy marital life. It is essential to discuss symptoms openly with the concerned gynecologists.
