Stomach ulcers are described as open sores that form in the stomach lining and cause stomach pain. Stomach ulcers also cause acid reflux, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, bloating, gas pain and belching. Stomach ulcers also induce significant signs such as pallor, dizziness, weakness, black blood in the stool, vomit that looks like coffee grounds and onset of sudden, severe abdominal pain that doesn't go away. The factors responsible for causing stomach ulcers include H. pylori infection, over-the-counter pain killers like ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin, other infections, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and severe physiological stress. These ulcers are also induced by foods that make the stomach more acidic, smoking, drinking and consumption of spicy foods. The treatment methods to manage a stomach ulcer include prescribing medications like antibiotics such as tetracycline, metronidazole and amoxicillin, cytoprotective agents like misoprostol and sucralfate, and proton pump inhibitors and also medical procedures such as pyloroplasty and vagotomy.
