SRT :
Stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) is usually done to treat very small cancers, and it targets a well-defined tumor. It gives radiotherapy in different directions across the body, and that beam meets the tumor. SRT is generally used in treating cancers of the lungs, liver, neck, spine, lymph nodes, and brain. For planning stereotactic radiotherapy, one needs to undergo a CT scan and then an MRI scan or PET scan of the areas to be treated. Then, the radiotherapy team, radiation oncologists, and neurosurgeon plan the treatment. In this therapy, no incision is made, and no tissue is removed. This technique helps the doctors to allow higher doses of radiation to the defined tumor in a short span of time, it affects the tumor and avoids healthy tissue as much as possible, thus reducing the side effects of radiation. Early side effects associated with stereotactic radiotherapy are swelling, fatigue, vomiting, and skin changes; rare side effects will be weakened bones, lung changes, bowel or bladder changes, and spinal cord changes.
