Frequently Asked Questions
Rectal cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the rectum, which is the last several inches of the large intestine closest to the anus. It is caused by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the rectal tissue and can spread to other parts of the body if left untreated.
There are several surgical options available for the treatment of colorectal cancer, including local excision, which removes only the part of the rectum containing cancer, and partial or total colectomy, which removes part or all of the colon. In some cases, radiation therapy or chemotherapy may also be used in conjunction with surgery. Consult the best rectal cancer specialist in Kolkata to know more.
Rectal cancer can affect individuals of any age, but it is more common in individuals over the age of 50. People with a family history of colorectal cancer, a history of inflammatory bowel disease, or a personal history of precancerous growths in the colon or rectum are also at an increased risk of developing rectal cancer.
Whether rectal cancer can be cured completely or not depends on a number of factors, including the size and stage of the tumor, the overall health of the patient, and the type of treatment received. In many cases, early-stage rectal cancer can be treated effectively with surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. However, in later stages, rectal cancer may be difficult to treat and may spread to other parts of the body.
