Pleural effusion is a disease condition in which the outer lining of the lungs, called the pleura, is affected. In pleural effusion, there will be an excess accumulation of fluid in the pleural space that is seen between the lining of the lungs and the chest cavity. There will be two types of pleural effusion: transudative and exudative.
