LVAD :

LVAD defined as left ventricular assisted device is surgically implanted medical device used in patients with end stage heart failure that usually provides support for cardiac pump failure. LVAD mechanically helps the heart to pump oxygenated blood to the body in order to reduce the overload on the heart. An LVAD is a portable device usually implanted inside the heart's left ventricle during open heart surgery.

LVAD can be used in order to prolong the life span as a bridge to transplant therapy ( while you wait for you heart transplant) and for destination therapy I.e for patients who are not candidates for transplant procedure. Although this device can help you live longer, living with it requires certain lifestyle adjustments such as managing the device,eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly,avoiding alcohol and tobacco products, being careful with your sleeping position and others.
