LVAD :
Another term for a Left Ventricular Assist Device is LVAD, which is a mechanical pump that supports a weakened heart in pumping the blood. The use of an LVAD most often occurs in patients who experience severe heart failure in which the left ventricle of the heart, that is the main pumping chamber, does not function normally. Although the LVAD can sometimes be seen as a bridge to transplant as this device supports a patient whose heart does not pump effectively enough in time, while awaiting transplantation it may also become the final destination for patients for whom a transplant is impossible. In this procedure, the LVAD is placed inside the chest cavity following surgical intervention, where it encourages the heart to pump blood out of the left ventricle throughout the body. The patient should be subjected to cautious treatment instructions after the surgical procedure, such as administering drugs that work to prevent blood clotting and infections. Although an LVAD hugely minimizes symptoms of heart failure and improves the quality of living in a person, it also subjects the patient to risks such as malfunction, infection, and thrombosis. This device requires supportive follow-ups as well as proper management to function appropriately.
