Lipoma :
A lipoma is a benign growth made of the fat cells. Lipomas are normally soft, movable, painless lumps located under the skin. They are often found in almost any area of the body but are more commonly found on the neck, back, shoulders, abdomen, and the inner thigh. Although the cause of lipomas is unknown they are said to have a relation with genetics, as they often run in families. Most lipomas are of small size, grow slowly over time, and may be tender or sore if the adjacent structures are compressed. Swelling and lumps occur with many cases and often present with symptoms without any other clinically relevant signs or symptoms. They are not usually treated unless they become painful, annoying or aesthetically unappealing. Most preferred treatment is removal by surgical resection to ensure complete excision to prevent recurrence. Observing the size of the tumor or changes in symptoms should generally be done under regular follow-up by a general surgeon as it may reoccur and it may have to be removed .,Some lipomas are removed and even sent for biopsy to rule out any underlying disease,if any.
