ITP :

ITP will be called as idiopathic thrombocytic purpura. It can be described as an autoimmune disorder that causes the destruction of the body's own blood platelets, which are attacked by the body's own immune system. ITP will result in a lowering of blood platelet count and thus causes a high risk of bleeding and the formation of bruises easily. The symptoms which will be observed in ITP will be red colored spots over the skin, which are pinpoint-sized, gum bleeding, formation of bruises, nose bleeding, bruising of the skin, fatigue, blood in the stools and urine. The treatment advised for ITP includes steroid medications, watchful observation of the child, and intravenous (IV) immunoglobulin. The diagnostic tests that are performed for the diagnosis of ITP will be blood tests to detect the complete blood count (CBC), which shows a low platelet count in the blood. ITP will subside within 6 months in children. When the ITP is detected in a child, parents need to take care of the child and should monitor their activities as it can cause bleeding and bruising more easily.

What is first treatment for Immune thrombocytopenia(ITP)?

The first line of treatment for ITP typically involves medications that increase platelet production or reduce the destruction of platelets. This may include corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or other drugs that suppress the immune system.

What to avoid if you have ITP?

If you have ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura), you should avoid activities that may increase the risk of bleeding, such as contact sports, heavy lifting, and using non-sterile needles. You should also avoid alcohol and certain medications, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which can lower the platelet count and increase the risk of bleeding.
Frequently Asked Questions
The survival rate for ITP varies depending on the severity of the condition and the response to treatment. Most people with ITP have a good prognosis, and the majority of patients are able to manage the condition with medication or other treatments. However, in severe cases, ITP can be life-threatening and may require more aggressive treatment.
Immune thrombocytopenia can occur at any age, but it is most commonly diagnosed in children and older adults. While ITP can become more severe with age, it is not necessarily a progressive condition and can often be managed with appropriate treatment.
