Hypertension in Adults :
Hypertension in adults is described as an increase in blood pressure, which raises the risk for stroke, heart attack, and other conditions. The normal blood pressure in healthy adults is 120/80 mm Hg. A person is said to have hypertension if the blood pressure is more than 140/90 mm Hg. Hypertension in adults is categorized into two types such as primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. The factors responsible for causing primary hypertension in adults include lack of physical activity, high consumption of beverages containing alcohol and unhealthy eating patterns including high contents of sodium in the diet. Secondary hypertension occurs due to medical conditions such as renal vascular diseases, kidney disease, primary aldosteronism, obstructive sleep apnea, tobacco use, recreational drug use (cocaine and amphetamines) and certain medications like NSAIDs, oral contraceptives, and immunosuppressants. The treatment plan to manage hypertension in adults includes taking medications as recommended, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight and making necessary diet changes.
