Hemophilia :

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder that effects the blood's ability to clot , leading to prolonged bleeding after injury to skin surface. It is caused due to inherited gene mutations -Hemophilia A& B , lack of clotting factor VIII- Hemophilia A (Classic hemophilia) or clotting factor IX- Hemophilia B (Christmas disease) factor XI defeciency-Hemophilia C (Rosenthal syndrome) or spontaneous mutations (rare).

Symptoms of hemophilia include prolonged bleeding after injury or surgery, easy bruising , joint pain and swelling and muscle weakness etc. It mostly effects men , although seen in women its rare ( due to x linked inheritence). In both hemophilia A and B there is spontaneous bleeding . Internal bleeding is common in people with severe hemophilia and some individuals with moderate hemophilia and most common internal bleed being joint bleed. Complications of hemophilia are deep internal bleeding , joint damage , transfusion transmitted infection intracranial hemorrhage etc,. Management of hemophilia is there no long term cure. Treatment and prevention of bleeding episodes is done primarily by replacing the missing blood clotting factors.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hemophilia symptoms in babies and children may include excessive bleeding after circumcision, unexplained bruises, joint swelling and pain, frequent nosebleeds, and prolonged bleeding from cuts or injuries. In severe cases, spontaneous bleeding into the muscles and joints can occur.
Causes of hemophilia may be due to deficiency or malfunction of certain blood-clotting factors, specifically factor VIII (in hemophilia A) or factor IX (in hemophilia B). This can be caused by mutations in the genes responsible for producing these factors.
Women can be carriers of hemophilia, meaning they have one normal and one abnormal gene, but they typically do not develop symptoms of the condition themselves. However, they can pass the abnormal gene on to their children. In rare cases, women with two copies of the abnormal gene may develop mild to moderate symptoms of hemophilia.
Hemophilia is an inherited genetic disorder that is passed down from parent to child. It is most commonly inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern, which means that the gene for hemophilia is located on the X chromosome and is passed from mothers who carry the gene to their sons.
