Heart stroke is also called as heart attack in a common language, and it is known as myocardial infarction in medical terminology. When a patient suffers a heart attack, the blood vessels of the heart narrow down, decreasing the blood flow to the muscle of the heart and resulting in chest pain. Some of the symptoms a patient with a heart attack might experience are discomfort and tightness in the chest associated with sweating, throat discomfort, jaw pain radiating to the left shoulder and back, palpitations, nausea, and giddiness. Risk factors for developing a heart stroke include unhealthy lifestyles like excessive smoking, abuse of alcohol, dyslipidemia, strong family history of coronary artery disease, uncontrolled blood sugars, and hypertension. Investigations that might be advised for a patient suffering a heart stroke include ECG, 2D echo, chest X-ray, basic blood investigations, cardiac MRI, and CT coronary angiogram followed by coronary angioplasty if required. Medications that would be advised include antiplatelets, antihypertensives, and statins.
