Folliculitis :

Folliculitis is a ectodermal skin condition which is due to infection and inflammation of hair follicles. It can be caused by either bacterial or fungal species. Based on the etiology factor the choice of topical or oral treatment can be varied. It has a clinical presentation like that of a acne/small raised bumps or pustular lesions. It can be excruciatingly painful and cause irritation.

Folliculitis can be seen as scattered group or in clusters. It can be caused due to repetitive razor usage, unhygienic sauna baths, and as a side effects of chronic medication compliance. Folliculitis can be diagnosed easily with help of clinical signs and symptoms, and microbial cultures if required by licensed dermatologist. It can be treated with home remedies and proper hygiene in case of mild cases; however, if the severity increases then topical application of antibiotic or anti-fungal ointments as prescribed is deemed essential. Routine skin care with heavy moisturizers preceded by hygienic bath schedules is highly recommended.
