Drug Allergy :
Drug allergy is an allergic reaction caused by medications that are used for other disease conditions. The drug allergy can be caused by an overreaction of the immune system to the drugs (medications). The symptoms that are noticed in case of drug allergy will be mild drug allergy, such as skin rashes, itching, hives, watering of eyes, swelling, running nose, and in severe cases of drug allergy, the symptoms include difficulty in breathing, difficulty in swallowing, low blood pressure, dizziness, increased heart rate, unconsciousness, and confusion. In some instances, the drug reaction can develop late after taking the drug with abnormal reactions such as skin rashes, abnormal white blood cell count, joint pain, fever, swollen lymph nodes, swelling of joints. The diagnosis of drug allergy can be made depending on the reactions of the body. The management of drug allergy will be done by cessation of the drug causing allergic reactions, medications for treating the reactions, such as antihistamines, steroids, and allergy desensitisation.
