Coronary Artery Disease CAD :
The coronary arteries are the main blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. In people with coronary artery disease (CAD), there may be a build-up of a sticky-substance (called plaque), in the coronary arteries, causing them to become narrow and blocked. As a result, less or no amount of blood flows through these arteries. The heart muscle does not get the oxygen-rich blood it needs.
Overtime, CAD weakens the heart muscle, and may contribute to the development of irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmia's), and heart failure. CAD develops over many years and is the most common type of heart disease. Some of the symptoms of CAD include, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
A completely blocked coronary artery will cause a heart attack. Some of the symptoms of heart attack include pain or discomfort in the chest that spreads to the shoulders, neck, jaw, arms, or abdomen, fatigue, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, and lightheadedness. Talk to a doctor if you have any symptoms of CAD. Seek immediate medical care if you have symptoms of a heart attack.
