Colon Cancer :
Colon cancer is called colorectal cancer, which affects the colon, the large intestine that carries digested food. Usually, colon cancer will develop as polyps or growths in the innermost lining of the colon. The symptoms that will be experienced in colon cancer will be blood in stools, abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, stomach bloating, vomiting, unexplained weight loss, shortness of breath, and fatigue. The diagnosis of colon cancer will be done with diagnostic tests such as complete blood count, carcinombryonic antigen (CEA) assay, comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), X-rays, CT scan, MRI scan, positron emission tomography (PET) scan, biopsy, and ultrasound scan. There are colon cancer screening tests like colonoscopy, fecal immunochemical test (FIT), fecal DNA test, guaiac-based fecal occult blood test, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and virtual colonoscopy. The treatment for colon cancer will be done with partial colectomy, polypectomy, radiofrequency ablation, and surgical resection with colostomy.
