Cleft Lip :
A cleft lip is a congenital or birth defect that is explained as an opening in the upper lip. The cleft lip will occur due to genetics, maternal health conditions like smoking, drinking alcohol during pregnancy, high blood sugar, and certain medications. The cleft lip will be unilateral or bilateral, and even in the middle. In some instances, the cleft lip will be seen along with a cleft palate, which will be the opening of the roof of the mouth. The problems that are seen with a cleft lip include feeding becoming hard for the child, frequent ear infections, and a nasal speaking tone. A cleft lip will be detected during the regular prenatal ultrasound scanning around 20 weeks of pregnancy. The treatment advised for a cleft lip will be cleft lip repair, ear tube surgery, and surgery to improve the appearance of the skin. After the surgical repair of the cleft, there will be non-surgical treatments like speech therapy and dental management.
