Cervical Cerclage :

Cervical cerclage is a surgical procedure performed to prevent preterm labour. It is otherwise called a cervical stitch procedure as a stitch or a suture is placed around the cervix. It helps in prevention of cervical opening prematurely during gestation period. It is performed as a preventative measure in women with weakened cervix, short cervix, multiple gestations or history of preterm labour. A cervical stitch placement is performed under anesthesia protocol around 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. It is removed around 8 months to enhance vaginal delivery. This cervical cerclage procedure is generally effective in the majority of the population. Some of the common complications include bleeding, infection, cervical stenosis and ineffective control on preterm labour.
