Blood In Stools :
Blood in stools, also called as rectal bleeding, is a condition when stool appears bright red or tarry black and occurs due to a variety of conditions. The site of bleeding is determined by the color of stool which can be detailed as : bright red blood in stool indicates that the bleeding is in colon, rectum or anus, black stool point that bleeding is in stomach, due to a bleeding stomach ulcer and bleeding in small intestine or higher up in the colon is recognized by seeing dark red or maroon blood in the stool. The factors responsible for causing blood in stools include hemorrhoids or piles, inflammatory bowel disease, anal fissures, diverticulitis, sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, infectious colitis, colon polyps, peptic ulcer disease and colorectal cancer. The management of blood in stools is done using various methods like using medications (for IBD), making dietary changes and surgical treatments to treat the underlying cause like polyp removal, etc.
