Autologous BMT :

Autologous BMT/bone marrow or stem cell transplant is a procedure of collecting an individual's stem cells from their own bone marrow and transfuse the collected stem cells in their blood stream. Opting for autologous bone marrow transplant reduces the instance of incompatibility issues and cell rejections. This procedure is performed in people suffering from conditions such as Hogdkin's lymphoma.

To replace the damaged bone marrow, certain medications are prescribed to elevate the number of stem cell production in the bone marrow which will subsequently reach the blood stream for easier access via entry point in the vein. These freely flowing new stem cells are collected from the blood stream and the blood is returned to the body. The stored stem cells in frozen medium are then transplanted to blood stream to reach the bone marrow to produce new functioning cells. After this process the patient is kept in closed monitoring and assessed accordingly.
