Hernia :

Hernia is the protrusion of an organ or tissue through some opening in the abdominal wall or associated with the muscle. Inguinal type is the most common variety, which protrudes at the groin area, an umbilical type protrudes at the navel, a hiatal type is the elevation of the upper stomach into the chest cavity behind the diaphragm. Causes include heavy lifting, obesity, chronic coughing, straining from bowel movements, and previous surgeries. Symptoms may be variable but can also present as a palpable mass, pain or discomfort on bending over or lifting, and nausea. The management of hernia is mainly offered by surgery, where the hernia is repaired and the muscle wall of the abdomen is reinforced. In some instances, a merely wait and see approach will be adopted by the doctor with slight conditions. Hernias will lead to conditions such as strangulation when not placed under any form of management at all. Strangulation is a situation where the supply of tissue blood is cut off.
