Heart Blocks :
The disturbance in the conduction system of the heart, which results in the disturbance of passing the electrical signals from the upper chamber to the lower chamber of the heart, is called a heart block. Due to this, the patient may experience a skipped beat or palpitations. There are three types of heart block: first-degree heart block, second-degree heart block, and third-degree heart block. Some symptoms a patient might experience are dizziness, palpitations, fainting, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Diagnosis of heart block is made by certain investigations, which include ECG, 24-hour Holter monitoring, stress test, and electrophysiological study. Risk factors for developing a heart block include underlying diseases of the heart like CAD, congenital heart disease, uncontrolled thyroid disease, and also due to autoimmune diseases. Treatment depends upon the type of heart block and the symptoms. Most commonly, a permanent pacemaker would be advised. Lifestyle modification, such as reducing stress and regular physical activity would be advised.
