CT Coronary Angiogram :
If a doctor suspects that a patient may have blocked or narrowed arteries in the heart, they may order a CT coronary angiogram. This imaging procedure involves injecting the patient with a special dye that allows imaging machines to capture the workings of the heart. Then, a CT scan is performed to view and capture images of the heart - specifically of the coronary arteries. When the procedure begins, the technician injects the dye intravenously through the arm or hand. Then, electrodes are attached to the chest, and the patient is positioned in the CT scanner. This imaging procedure is different from a standard coronary angiogram, which involves the insertion of a catheter into the heart. Then, the special dye is injected via the catheter before the imaging begins. In contrast, the CT coronary angiogram procedure does not require the use of a catheter.
