Stomach ulcer :
A stomach ulcer simply is termed a peptic ulcer. it is merely an opening that appears on the mucosa lining on either the stomach or the upper part of the intestines. Known causes are infections by bacteria and prolonged use of certain drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen. Heavy consumption of alcohol, smoking, and great tension or pressure have also been assumed to be contributing causes. The presentation is with gnawing or burning pain in the abdomen which improves with eating or antacids. Apart from generalized symptoms of bloating, heartburn, nausea and vomiting, there may sometimes be blood in stools indicating bleeding. Antacid drugs will reduce the acidity of the stomach and which allows the ulcer to heal. Accompanying Infection has to be treated using antibiotics so that the bacteria are eliminated. Treatment is removal of irritating factors especially NSAIDs, alcohol, and smoking.
