Heart Blocks :
Heart block is a condition where partially or fully blocked electrical signals that control heart rhythms are manifested. Generally, the signals travel to various chambers in the heart to regulate heartbeat in a rhythmic manner. Disrupted signals enable the heart to beat either very slowly or irregularly, leading to dizziness, faintness, fatigue, or shortness of breath. Heart blocks are categorized into three degrees first, second, and third. First heart block is the mildest form of heart block and seldom presents with symptoms whereas the most severe form is the third degree in which the electrical signals to one or even all of the heart chambers may be completely blocked, grave complications being possible. Heart block may be caused by several factors, such as aging or heart disease. Other causes of heart block are the damage to the electrical system of the heart due to certain diseases like a heart attack. The treatment varies with the severity: less severe blocks might not even need any treatment but constant monitoring, while the more serious ones require a pacemaker for a heart with a regular rhythm. Doctors who specialise in this field that diagnose and treat heart block are cardiologists.
