Chalazion :
Sudden Inflammation or a blockage of an oil gland due to bacteria which results in formation of a small cyst on the eye is called as chalazion. Studies believe that deficiency of vitamin A , or an underlying eye disease like viral infections and tuberculosis also can lead to this .Chalazion should not be left untreated as it might cause a permanent damage to the eyes.It may last for weeks till months. Symptoms of chalazion include watery eyes , redness over the eye lid , and blurring of vision. Diagnosis is done by physical examination and a complete history taking.Treatment includes eye drops ,ointments like erythromycin and steroids would be suggested for 2 weeks Surgical options or a drainage would also be considered which is a day care procedure and might take 30 min , if the chalazion is growing in size and doesnt go away on its own .Warm compress and a gentle massage are some of the options which are used as home remedies. Maintaining a hand hygeine and appropriate hygeine of contact lens if the patient is using it are some the preventive measures
