Surgical Oncologist :
A surgical oncologist is a specialized oncologist in diagnosing and surgically removing cancer tumors, and staging of cancers. Surgical treatment is done along with chemotherapy and radiotherapy in cancer treatments. A surgical oncologist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by post-graduation in Ms in general surgery, and further they will pursue DNB or MCh in surgical oncology. Surgical oncologists will perform treatment in collaboration with medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, and also provide comprehensive cancer care. Surgical oncologists will do surgical removal in case of solid tumors, such as pancreatic cancer, sarcoma, neuroendocrine tumors, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal tumors. The main goal of a surgical oncologist is to diagnose the cancer with a biopsy, to remove the tumor and prevent its spread to other organs, and to detect the spread of the tumor in the body. The surgical procedures that are done by surgical oncologists will be laparoscopy, cryosurgery, laser surgery, and robotic surgery. The symptoms of cancer will be long-standing pain with a feeling of a lump, unexplained weight loss, digestive problems, and persistent fever. The type of cancer will be diagnosed, and then it will be treated by a surgical oncologist when surgery is required.
