Warts are contagious and mostly found on fingers, hands and back of hands. They are caused by a virus called as HPV which causes the rapid growth of cells on the external layer of the skin. Depending on the area they are divided into common warts, palmer warts, plantar, filiform and genital warts. Warts can be painful if they develop under the foot and some times children might also feel embarrassed if the warts appear on the hands or any other place.
Children should be educated not to scratch the warts and maintain a proper personal hygiene as it can spread when they come in contact with other children. Warts disappear in one or two years on its own. Some of the treatment options a dermatologist might consider are scrapping of wart, laser treatment, freezing of wart, or medications. A dermatologist should be consulted if the child experiences any of the symptoms like bleeding, any discharge of pus, painful warts.
