Seizures are involuntary episodes primarily characterized by uncontrollable movements, staring, and loss of consciousness. It is caused due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. They are predominantly classified as generalized and focal seizures which are sub-classified into various types. Some of the other noticeable symptoms include emotional instability, drooling, teeth clenching, and loss of bladder movements. There are different phases of seizure which include all stages of seizure development and the after effects. Seizures are identified by sensory and emotional changes. Abnormal blood sugar levels, extreme light sensitivity, stress, emotional trauma, and other underlying medical conditions trigger the occurrence of seizures. They have a severe impact on the quality of daily life and require immediate medical attention by neurologists and clinical psychiatrists. Treatment with antipsychotic medications, brain stimulation therapy and a ketogenic diet may help in the management of seizures.
