Eye Surgery :
Eye surgery, also known as ophthalmic surgery, refers to various surgical procedures performed on the eye to treat eye disorders, injuries, or diseases. It is done in various conditions like refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism), cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, eye injuries or trauma,cosmetic concerns like droopy eyelids etc,. Signs and symptoms include blurry vision, double vision, eye pain or discomfort, sensitivity to light, redness or swelling of the eye, eye discharge or tearing, difficulty seeing at night or in bright light etc. Risk factors include age, family history of eye diseases, trauma, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking. Complications of eye surgeries include infection, bleeding or hemorrhage, vision loss or blindness, cataract formation, dry eye syndrome, corneal scarring, floaters, choroidal hemorrhage, eye pain/discomfort, orbital hemorrhage etc. Diagnosis is made by comprehensive eye exam, visual acuity test, refraction test, slit-lamp exam, imaging tests like e.g., ultrasound, OCT . Surgical procedures include LASIK, cataract surgery, retinal detachment repair etc.
