Interventional Pulmonologist :
An interventional pulmonologist is known as a specialized doctor who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the lungs with invasive procedures. An interventional pulmonologist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by a master's, MD, or DNB in pulmonology. They are further specialized with a fellowship in interventional pulmonology. Interventional pulmonologists mainly focus on diagnosing and treating various lung airway problems with therapeutic bronchoscopy and pleural procedures. The conditions that can be managed by an Interventional pulmonologist include lung cancer, pleural effusion, airway obstruction, airway stenosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), removal of foreign objects from airways, pneumothorax, coughing of blood, enlarged lymph nodes, and airway malacia. The major procedures performed by an Interventional pulmonologist include endobronchial ultrasound, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, airway dilation, stent placement, stent removal, bronchoscopic thermoplasty, pleuroscopy, and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR).
