A general surgeon is a specialized medical doctor who is proficient in performing surgical procedures to treat various medical conditions. To gain extensive knowledge and qualify as a general surgeon, one should complete five and half years of graduation and obtain an MBBS degree from a reputed medical college, followed by pursuing three years of post graduation, MS in General Surgery. A wide range of conditions are treated by a general surgeon, which include traumatic injuries, hemorrhoids, colon and rectal diseases like inflammatory bowel diseases, gastrointestinal bleeding, diverticulitis and chronic conditions involving the food pipe, stomach, intestine, gallbladder, pancreas and liver, endocrine conditions, physical abnormalities and vascular conditions that require a surgical method of approach.
