Varicose Veins :
Varicose veins are a condition in which there is swelling and engorgement of blood vessels in the legs, feet, and ankles. The varicose veins will occur due to weakening of the walls of the veins, due to aging, obesity, hormones, and standing for long durations. The symptoms that will be observed in varicose veins will be heavy legs, bulging of veins, pain in the legs, venous ulcers, itching around the varicose vein, discoloration of skin, swelling of ankles, legs, and feet. Varicose veins can develop most commonly in the lower half of the legs. Varicose veins will be diagnosed depending on the physical examination, and may also be advised to undergo an ultrasound scan. The treatment for varicose veins will be through elastic stockings or socks to compress veins, elevation of legs to increase the flow of blood, laser therapy called endovenous thermal ablation, vein surgery called ligation and stripping, ambulatory phlebectomy, and injection therapy called sclerotherapy. The complications that are seen in varicose veins treatment will be bleeding, numbness, pain, infection, nerve injury, lumps, and changes in color.
